Quantum Lunch: Determinism and causality. Which aspects are shared between classical physics and quantum physics?

Speaker: Peter Harremoes

Abstract: Our understanding of causation took a great leap forward with the systematic study of Bayesian networks that started about 30 years ago. Nevertheless, there are still many obvious questions that the theory of Bayesian networks cannot answer. In this talk a new approach to Bayesian networks via lattices of functional dependencies will be presented. This gives a natural framework to develop Bell type Inequalities, non-Shannon inequalities, and some aspects of quantum gravity.
