Quantum Lunch: Fun with diagram algebras

Title: Fun with diagram algebras
Abstract:
Diagram algebras are a natural but little known generalisation of ordinary algebras, where multiplication is replaced by a gluing procedure. Aside from offering unlimited doodling fun for the whole family, they can be used to describe a variety of physical systems, even ones with nonlocal degrees of freedom. In the case of loop models, for example, integrability can be established by relatively simple diagrammatic manipulations.
