Title: Improving Quantum Sensing with Variational Methods

Abstract: In this talk I will introduce you to our work on a variational quantum algorithm for the optimization of quantum sensing protocols that was done together with Johannes Borregaard and Jens Eisert. After a quick introduction to quantum metrology, I will explain the inner workings of variational quantum algorithms and how they can be applied to sensing problems. After presenting some numerical evidence, I close with an overview of alternative approaches that have been put forward by other groups.
